Secure

ShunyaMail uses strong encryption to secure email against eavesdropping. It uses 2048 bits RSA asymmetric encryption for an email message and small attachments. It uses 256 bits AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) symmetric encryption for large attachments.

Personal

Email is encrypted and decrypted on the personal computer providing end-to-end security. A key pair is generated by the user. The public key can be sent using an unencrypted email. PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) is not required.

Software Only or Smartcard

Software Only
Use software only solution for a quick start. ShunyaMail uses Java cryptography for generating a key pair. The private key can be stored in a USB flash drive or a CD/DVD.
Smartcard

Use the smartcard for better security. ShunyaMail can use the smartcard for key pair generation and private key storage. The smartcard provides safe and convenient storage for the private key. The smartcard can be conveniently carried in a wallet. The smartcard's hardware random number generator facilitates better security.
